Laura Hazekamp, MSW

Laura (she/her) provides a relaxed and informal approach to therapy. Her goal is to create a comfortable space in which you feel safe to explore your worries, stressors or traumatic experiences. She believes in using a person-centered therapeutic style and has experience with many different treatment models allowing for a flexible way of helping her clients. Laura knows that therapy can feel intimidating and encourages her clients to guide their treatment, meeting them where they are when they attend each session.


She has 5 years of experience in working with adolescents, young adults and their families. Her areas of interest include working with survivors of abuse and trauma, anxiety, life transitions, identity formation and interpersonal distress. Laura is affirming of and has experience working with the LGBTQ+ community. She is certified in Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and recently trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

She regularly pulls from many different modalities to enrich treatment and provide different and creative interventions. Laura wants to help you feel empowered within the therapeutic process and to de-stigmatize seeking support for your mental health.

 

Laura earned her Bachelor of Arts (BA) in psychology from Hope College in 2013and her Masters of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Michigan in 2015. For the past 5 years she has worked as an outpatient adolescent therapist in a community mental health setting and this last year she took over the role of clinical supervisor for her therapy team. Laura now joins RCPS after relocating back to her home state – Michigan!
