Melissa Lidderdale, Ph.D

In 2014, Dr. Melissa Lidderdale joined River City Psychological Services. She has worked in the mental health field since 1994. Dr. Lidderdale’s integrative approach to psychotherapy emphasizes the strengths of the individual in combination with additional resources, such as coordinated care with other wellness providers. She utilizes interpersonal, relational, and cognitive behavioral therapy styles to best address an individual’s unique concerns, allowing her to develop a treatment plan that considers the client’s particular context and experience. The celebration of diversity is a cornerstone of her practice. She has received focused training in providing clinical supervision, treating trauma, treating eating disorders, and addressing LGBT concerns. Her additional clinical interests include developing resilience through spirituality, mindfulness, and relationships.

After earning her Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in psychology and literature from Grove City College in 1994, Dr. Lidderdale provided direct client services for Transitional Services Inc. before returning

 

to graduate school in 1996. She earned her Master of Arts (M.A.) in 1999 from the University of Akron and her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in 2009 from Western Michigan University. Dr. Lidderdale has provided psychological services in a variety of settings including college and university counseling centers at the University of Illinois, Western Michigan University, and Kalamazoo College. Since 2004, she has maintained an independent practice in Kalamazoo, MI.

 

Dr. Lidderdale is a current member of the American Psychological Association. Previously, she served as an elected trustee for a division of the American Counseling Association. Outside of her work with clients, Melissa enjoys connecting with nature through kayaking, hiking, and camping. She has also practiced martial arts for 10 years and enjoys striving for unity of mind, body, and spirit.
