Jim Rossi, Ph.D

Dr. Jim Rossi (he/him) believes that therapy is about relationships first and foremost. Through his training and experience he has developed the belief that fostering a trusting and collaborative relationship with clients allows them to explore themselves and their worlds in order to find new ways forward that work for them. He believes that there is no “correct” answer for everyone, and values individual differences and finding solutions that work for clients in the context of their own lives, values, and aspirations. He also believes that the decision to seek therapy is a truly courageous choice, and he is honored to work with those that share their stories with him. He has worked with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, adjustment to chronic illness (especially cardiovascular disease and diabetes), health anxiety, and attachment and relationship concerns.

Dr. Jim Rossi graduated with a Ph.D. in Health Psychology with a Clinical Concentration from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. ECU is one of the first and few programs in the country that provide training in conducting therapy with individuals struggling with health-related concerns. This training provided Dr. Rossi with an appreciation of how difficult it can be to make conscious choices to improve and manage one’s health in our fast-paced and stressful society. Furthermore, Dr. Rossi’s own personal experience, training, and philosophy are centered on the connection between our minds and our physical experience. As such, Dr. Rossi has worked with individuals diagnosed with diabetes, kidney dysfunction, individuals trying to lose weight, and individuals struggling with depression, eating disorders or anxiety in Primary Care. He has also worked with individuals diagnosed with mild to severe cardiovascular disease in Cardiology, as well as working with college students diagnosed with depression, anxiety, attachment concerns, and eating disorders in two major university counseling centers (Indiana University and East Carolina University). Dr. Rossi has also been trained in traditional mental health settings. Dr. Rossi employs a mix of dynamic, relational, and cognitive behavioral therapywith an emphasis on mindfulness and acceptance-based approaches.
