Char M. Houben, MA

Sometimes, deep emotional pain seems inescapable. Wounds seldom heal for those that mourn alone, but rather through genuine connection in the context of relationship. Char believes that the relationship between the therapist and client is the foundation of the therapeutic enterprise, a sacred space where we are allowed to be deeply seen and known. She genuinely values individual differences and approaches each client with warmth, empathy, dignity, and respect.

Char strives to foster a safe environment by cultivating a spirit of collaboration in the therapeutic relationship.  Char’s is open and affirming to the LGBTQ community, drawing from personal strengths and considering individual resilience factors, sociocultural context, and diverse intersecting identities in order to empower and reestablish a sense of overall well-being.

Char primarily functions from an interpersonal framework in which relational patterns and cognitive schemas shape human functioning. From this framework, she works to provide a reparative experience that will allow clients to create self-narratives that are more coherent, affirming, and flexible.
